THE HISTORY & BEAUTY

Perhaps a million years ago an unusual geological formation began, helped by the freshwater upstream meeting with the blue salt waters of the Pacific, eventually forming twin colonnades of dark red ironstone.

Evans head was first settled and named in 1877 by Captain Thomas Paddon, where river shores abounded in rock oysters and mud crabs, with superb eating fish flashing by in crystal clear waters. Around the bend in the river could be heard the murmur of foaming surf rolling onto pure white sands.

Over the years thousands of leisure seekers have also found an instant appeal in this natural beauty spot, with it’s miles of pristine beaches, rugged headlands & the Evans River, boasting the best sheltered access for boating on the entire North Coast. Evans Head is famous for it’s fishing and pioneered the first oyster and prawning industries in NSW.
